Police Patron!

Steve Blakeley - Derwent Brass PatronDerwent Brass are honoured to announce the appointment of Steven Blakeley as their new patron.

Steven has been associated with the band for a few years, his most recent involvement being the compere at our Christmas Assembly Rooms concert, with the Derby Hospital's Choir, raising money for Parkinson’s UK.

Steven is well known for his role as PC Geoff Younger in the ITV Police Drama 'Heartbeat', although his acting talents have seen him appear on stage in many theatre productions including, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Much Ado About Nothing, both with the British Shakespeare Company. Also to add to his credentials are roles in many BBC Radio plays and appearances in several TV commercials.

It is especially fitting that Derwent Brass appoint an individual who was born, brought up and currently lives  around Derbyshire, therefore fitting into the band’s community ethos.

Steven commented on his appointment: “I am very honoured indeed to become a patron of Derwent Brass and take great delight in being able to accept. I value the friendship I’ve had with Derwent Brass over the last few years and cannot think of a better way of building on and extending that friendship into the future."

He also remarked on the Late Lady Hilton, a former patron of the band: “I know of Lady Hilton’s commitment to the band and feel she will be a very hard act to follow, but I will certainly endeavour to provide as much support to Derwent Brass as possible”.

Keith Leonard, Musical Director of Derwent Brass, shared his delighted with the appointment: “Both myself and the band are proud to be associated with an individual like Steven Blakeley. Not only is he a talented actor, but someone who has his roots in the local community. The band has enjoyed a successful relationship with Steven and one than can only prosper for years to come.”

The band offer their full support and best wishes to Steven, and are looking forward to working together with him in the foreseeable future.
