Bass and Baritone Boost

Following the recent departure of long term members Neil Riddle (Eb Tuba) and Madline Eley (2nd Baritone), Derwent Brass are delighted to announce the appointment of two new very talented players.

Firstly the band welcomes on board the highly experienced Linda Hobbs to the position of Principal EEb Tuba. Linda has played for other Midlands bands including Jaguar Cars, Williams Davis, Kibworth and more recently Virtuosi GUS. At Derwent Brass Linda will be once again working alongside familiar face John Monaghan (BBb Tuba) who was also at GUS in Linda’s time there.

Joining the band at the same time, into the position of 2nd Baritone, is the gifted Richard Simnor. Richard helped out the band on their recording of Diversity in 2014 and is no stranger to certain members of the band, having worked previously alongside Chris and Keith Leonard in many of the historical Youth Brass 2000 successes. Richard remains the Principal Baritone at Foresters Brass 2000 sharing his responsibilities across both bands which will be no problem for the forthcoming Midland’s regional contest however as Richard will be sunning himself in New Zealand as the bands take to the Bedworth stage!

Keith Leonard, the band’s Musical Director commented: “I extend a hugely warm welcome to both these very talented players into our band. Not only are both these players going to add significant depth and experience around the stands, but they are also proper ‘bandspeople’ which is a vital ingredient in our happy, but committed setup at Derwent. I sincerely wish them both a long and enjoyable journey with our band.”
