Christmas Charity Concert Success (In Support of the MNDA)

December 4th 2010 saw Derwent Brass once again grace the stage of the modern Landau Forte Theatre, Derby, together with their special guests the Dalesman Male Voice Choir; this time to raise funds to support the Derbyshire Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Assocation.

Despite the severe weather conditions the concert pulled a near capacity audience which set the evening up to be a great success. Whilst finances from the event are yet to be finalised the band expects to make a significant donation to this worthy cause.

Although the band maintain a hectic concert schedule throughout the festive period, the audience were delighted to be entertained with some brand new Christmas music (always a difficult one to achieve!) including a premiere performance for the band of Rhapsody Noel, a challenging piece originally written for the New York Philharmonic Brass and Canadian Brass. The star of the night for many however was what can only be described as a beautiful rendition of 'O Holy Night', performed by the band's Solo Baritone player, Adrian Drewitt.

Not only did the event raise considerable funds for the MNDA, but also gave Derwent Brass the opportunity to present a donation to Evie Hall from the Ripley & Heanor District Explorer Scout Unit for services given at the bands recent concert with the Treorchy Male Choir. Evie and other members of her Scout Unit did a wonderful job in selling programmes and band merchandise throughout the evening which added considerably to the smooth running of the event. Evie is currently fundraising to take part in the 22nd World Scout Jamboree, to be held in Sweden in July 2011. The band is proud to help her in this venture.
