Derwent Brass at BBC Derbyshire Day (Carsington Water)

'Derbyshire Day', hosted and broadcasted by BBC Radio Derby, marks the anniversary of the launch (September 22nd) of the Derbyshire flag simultaneously at sites across the county in 2006. Since then, in what's become an annual event, thousands have turned out to help mark the anniversary at Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey and Sudbury Hall.

This year the event was held in the beautiful setting of Carsington Water on Sunday 19th September and Derwent Brass were pleased to be asked to attend alongside other popular attractions and stalls. The 10pc ensemble were subsequently despatched to the event which turned out to be a great success and saw a large following of visitors.

A member of the public who attended the festival kindly wrote to the band following their performance and commented:

“…what I witnessed yesterday was well played. Not just played well but smooth, with subtlety, emphasised at moments, lighter at others, crowned by a beautifully played piece featuring a young lady on Flugel Horn. I thoroughly enjoyed listening for the short while I was there, the band did you and themselves great credit…I appreciated the skill, liked the music and wished to send you my compliments, best wishes and good luck for the future.”  (Mike Blurton)

The ensemble thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this event, congratulate the organsiers on a truly successful day and look forward to taking part in any potential future or similar attractions.
