Derwent Brass Brass Ensemble at the wedding of Abigail & Rob

Derwent Brass were very pleased to be asked to perform at the Wedding ceremony of Abigail Kennedy & Robert Martin Sandars.

Abby is the daughter of Derwent Friends, Dave & Trudy Kennedy who had asked the Ensemble to play at St Mary’s Church in Stretton, Burton on Trent.

It was nice that the entire music was chosen by the couple and represented a fitting collection.

As a prelude, the guests were treated to two classic J. S Bach compositions, with the famous Air on a G String (from Suite No 3), followed by Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring. Prior to the happy couple entering a rendition of the Claudio Monteverdi Fanfare from ‘L’Orfeo’ – This was particularly well chosen as it was originally written by Monteverdi to ‘wake up and settle’ the audience prior to his Opera, where in Act 1, Orfeo and Euridice celebrate their wedding day. Pretty apt really.

The Bridal Procession then entered to a stately roof raising rendition of Handel’s Overture to Music for The Royal Fireworks, prompting Kim Thomas, the Vicar of St Mary’s to exclaim “Wow! Never in this church has any couple had such a grand Bridal Processio".

Whilst the couple signed the register the interlude music included The Air from Handel’s Water Music, followed by the famous Pachelbel Canon.

For the Recessional the couple had chosen “La Rejouissance” again from the Royal Fireworks Music.

Trudy & Dave were kind enough to send their thanks:-

"Please pass on our sincere thanks to Keith and the rest of the Derwent Brass Ensemble that played at Abby and Rob’s wedding yesterday. To say that it made the service is an understatement  - the ‘Orfeo’’ was particularly spectacular!  - Dave is very jealous that he wasn’t there to hear it, so perhaps we could request it at the friends concert in the summer! Again, many, many thanks, your performance made the amazing day even more unforgettable."
