Derwent Round Up Christmas

Derwent Brass round up their busy festive period with three gigs back to back!

Firstly the annual sell-out Christmas Concert in St. Helen's Church, Etwall, Derbyshire, this year on Friday 17th December, was once again a roaring success. Opening with a fully choreographed and bespoke arrangement of 'Sleigh Ride' by the band's musical director Keith Leonard, the audience were immediately entertained and remained so for the rest of the evening. This was helped along by beautiful performances of both Karl Jenkins' 'Benedictus' on the Euphonium played by Adam Rutter, followed later in the evening by 'O Holy Night' by Adrian Drewitt on Solo Baritone. The capacity crowd of course wouldn't have let the band leave without the now traditional rousing rendition of 'Schneewalzer' of course accompanied by the all important crowd participation! Other winners of the evening included 'Rhapsody Noel', written for Canadian Brass and Paul Lovatt-Cooper's 'A Christmas Finale'.

Secondly the Derwent Brass 10pc Ensemble were sent into action to once again perform alongside the Dalesman Male Voice Choir, this time in aid of the 'Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre'. The concert which took place on Saturday 18th in St. Peter's, Belper, supported by the Rotary Club of Belper and Duffield, also featured the joys of 'The Pottery School Choir' and the 'Come & Sing' Singers. A concert showcasing a great variety of artists, talent and music ultimately concluded with a mass performance of Hark the Herald Angels Sing, sending the audience home wanting more!

Finally on Sunday 19th, a small selection of Derwent Brass players got together to play in the band's local "The Tavern" in Belper, Derbyshire. The public house which sits nearby the band room is 'graced' with a Derwent Brass attendance every Thursday night following rehearsal and it was indeed a nice opportunity to be able to entertain our friends the owners (Pete and Nicky), and their customers for a couple of hours, all in the true spirit of Christmas.

Following a very busy and successful 2010, everybody at Derwent Brass would like to say a special thanks to all our fans for your continued support - it certainly is most appreciated.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, happy and successful New Year!
