End of an Era

As Derwent Brass say bye to a very successful 2014 and recent busy festive period, they also say a sad good bye to two of their longest serving members. Due to heavily increased work and other home responsibilities it is with sadness that Neil Riddle (Eb Tuba) and partner Madeline Eley (2nd Baritone) have both had to leave the band.

Neil commented: “It was a very difficult decision indeed to leave...I have been with Derwent since 1996 and Madeline since 2001 and we are both extremely proud to see it evolve into the organisation it is today. We have made a lot of friends here and take away a lot of memories. Of course we will be staying in touch and look forward to following the band’s successes in the future.”
Not only were Neil and Madeline talented players and members of the band, but Neil was also the Band Manager (having held the roles of secretary and treasurer previously) and Madeline the librarian. Together they would regularly sort logistics for band events, played a vital role in securing the band’s rehearsal facility, produced the ‘Friends of Derwent Brass’ newsletter and much more.
The responsibilities left by the departure of the two will be reviewed during the band’s AGM which takes place on Tuesday 13th January.
Details on replacement players to follow shortly.
