Etwall 2011 Summer Concert

Derwent Brass performed their annual 2011 Summer Concert to a packed audience in the charming setting of St. Helen’s Church, Etwall in Derbyshire on Saturday 2nd July.

The band performed a varied programme, on the beautiful summer's evening, with something that would appeal to all musical tastes, including a traditional march, a moving tribute to the music of John Barry, big band Beatles numbers, hymn tunes and more. Once again, there were sublime solo performances from some of the bands key players including 'Hejre Kati' by the band’s principle cornet player, Dave Neville, and a swing interpretation of 'I Only Have Eyes for You', by Andy Devereux on Bass Trombone.

A spokesman for the concert said: "Derwent Brass share a special relationship with everyone at St. Helens and it is a pleasure welcoming them back to our church. They always thoroughly entertain their audience and this concert was no exception”.

The band on this occasion was conducted by friend of the band Andy Culshaw, stepping in for our normal Musical Director Keith Leonard who was away on holiday that particular night. Andy had the audience in stitches with his anecdotes and pleasant lighted hearted compereing; the band would like to extend their thanks to Andy for all his efforts.

Derwent Brass will next be performing at the Albert Hall in Nottingham on Friday July 22nd along with the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir with special guests the Welsh Risca Male Choir. Also featured is guest soloist Samantha Hay from Welsh National Opera.  Please click here for more details.
