Helping to Mend Broken Hearts this Christmas

A Christmas Charity Concert Raising funds for the British Heart Foundation

A Christmas Charity Concert is to be held in Derby next month to raise much needed funds for the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Mending Broken Hearts Appeal. Derwent Brass are hosting their annual festive event on Saturday 8th December from 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm) at Landau Forte College Theatre, with special guests The Dalesmen Male Voice Choir also performing. Based on previous years the 'Roy Poole' charity event is set to be a great night of varied musical entertainment from both band and choir to really lift launch us into the Christmas season.

Chris Leonard, Marketing Manager for Derwent Brass, said: “We are proud to be supporting the BHF’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal this Christmas. Every year, the band organise and perform at least two charity concerts with proceeds going to a worthy cause as voted for by the audience who attended the previous event. This rolling campaign means we can support the local community not only through concerts, workshops and other brass music promotion, but also through a wide array of fantastic charities. Not only are BHF a very well organised and appreciative body of people, but with various members of the band having a personal connection with the importance of preventing heart failure, Derwent Brass are delighted to help Mend Broken Hearts this Christmas.”

Sophie Jardine, BHF Fundraising Manager in Derbyshire, said: “The appeal was launched last year to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Its goal is simple – to fund the research that could begin to literally 'mend broken hearts'. At the moment, there's no cure for a broken heart. Once your heart muscle is damaged by a heart attack, it can never fully recover. But this ground-breaking research will help us to learn how to teach the human heart to ‘heal itself’. I hope the event is a huge success, and I’d like to thank all involved for choosing to support our vital appeal.”

Tickets are £7.50 in advance and £8 on the door, with children under 14 half price. They are available to purchase from www.derwentbrass.com or Foulds Music on Iron Gate, Derby. There is free parking, a licensed bar and full disabled access for the event.
