Lee joins the ranks!

Derwent Brass would like to give a warm welcome to Lee Gilbert, who recently joined the ranks of our percussionLee Gilbert - Derwent Brass section.

Following the departure of long term member Sam Jowett to undertake studies at Cardiff School of Music, Lee expressed interest with the band and joined following his first rehearsal at the beginning of January.

Lee has played percussion in bands of all kinds including Tutbury Concert Band (alongside our very own Grant Ashenden), Uttoxeter Town Band, Glebe Symphonic Winds and Ratby Co-op Band, as well as helping out many other ensembles, including Keele University Band where he completed two European tours covering Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Aside from brass bands Lee plays the drums in a local rock band and performs gigs around the East Midlands. Lee therefore brings a wealth of experience with him to our percussion section.

Keith Leonard, the band’s Musical Director commented; “It is with great delight that I welcome Lee to the band. His commitment to performing, not just in the brass band sphere but in other genres clearly shows him to be a versatile musician who has blended well into the band’s diverse range of performances. Lee’s already evident talent merges with the band’s values on quality and consistency and I hope he feels part of the Derwent family for many years to come.”

Lee completes the percussion line up joining Sion Hathaway (principle percussion), Rory Steel, Grant Ashenden and Dave Armshaw.
