New Trom Sounds

Due to a significant increase in work commitments as Director of Education at ‘Warwick Music Group’ and Education and Development Consultant for charity ‘Brass for Africa’, Bass Trombonist Chris Fower has sadly had to take a back seat from playing at Derwent Brass.

Musical director Keith Leonard commented “I’d like to thank Chris for his tremendous contribution to our performances since he joined the band back in 2013. Looking to the future, it’s wonderful to have immediately engaged John Hickling, a great player with vast experience; I look forward to working together as we continue our musical journey.”

John Hickling is no stranger to top level Midlands banding having enjoyed some notable successes with Desford Colliery, including the ‘triples’ in the Granada Band of the Year, BBC Best of Brass, Mineworkers Championships and Rothmans Brass in Concert. Other notable wins include the 1987 National win under James Watson and the European under Howard Snell. Following a sabbatical from playing, John more recently played with Newstead Brass at the British Open Spring Festival and later with Enderby in the 2014 National Finals, before joining Derwent Brass following the recent Midland Regional Championships.

Derwent Brass would like to thank Chris for all his efforts since joining the band and wish him all the very best in his career progressions. The band also extend a very warm welcome to John who will undoubtedly be a significant asset and we wish him a very long and enjoyable stay.
