Derwent Brass is delighted to welcome percussionist Alfie Levitt as the newest addition to the band.
Alfie began his musical journey at Derby Music Centre and has already developed an impressive résumé at just 18 years old. He achieved Grade 8 Drum Kit at 17 and Grade 8 Snare Drum at 18, and has performed extensively across the region. Throughout his teenage years, he was a committed member of the Derbyshire City and County Youth Orchestra and Youth Wind Band. During his time with the Wind Band, the ensemble achieved a prestigious Platinum Award at the National Final Concert Band Festival Championships in 2024.
Alfie has also played with Derventio Brass since the age of 16, as well as making multiple appearances with Derby Concert Orchestra. More recently, he has already featured with Derwent Brass prior to officially joining the band as a full time member in November 2025.
In a fitting turn of history, Alfie also follows in the footsteps of his dad, Steve Levitt, who previously played with Derwent Brass — continuing the family’s musical legacy within the band.
Chris Leonard, Band Manager, commented: “It’s fantastic to see the Levitt family name live on at Derwent Brass. Alfie is not only a talented young percussionist, but a grounded, respectful and thoroughly impressive young man. From his very first rehearsal it was clear just how much quality, precision and musical intelligence he brings to the percussion team. We’re absolutely delighted to have him with us.”
We offer Alfie a very warm welcome into Derwent Brass and look forward to sharing the stage with him for many performances to come.
