Treorchy Choir - The Return Concert 2010

In 2008 Derwent Brass teamed up with the world famous Treorchy Male Choir, in the Assembly Rooms, Derby and performed what can only be described as an unforgettable and superb concert to a capacity audience. So was the success of the event that many people asked for a repeat concert, together with the choir, as soon as possible!

Putting on an event of this calibre is no easy task, but in November 2010 put it on once again we did! Yet again a night of brilliant entertainment and excellent music making. The band and choir were also joined this time by Nigel Vardy, world famous mountaineer, explorer and public speaker who compered the evening brilliantly.

The audience were delighted to be presented with a programme of both mixed music and choreography; perhaps one of the most moving on the night was a dedication of "I'll Walk With God" to Lady Hilton, Patron of Derwent Brass, who recently sadly passed away.

Within the audience was Mike Richardson, Trustee of Friends of Derby Salvation Army:

"Saturday 6th November saw the second concert between the best band in Derbyshire, Derwent Brass, and the world famous Treorchy Male Choir.  A sell out audience were treated to an excellent programme by both band and choir.

Among the audience were the Trustees of the Friends of Derby Salvation Army together with their brass playing and songster friends.  The Welsh choir were in particular good voice and delighted the audience with many favourites including a medley from the stage musical, Les Miserables.

The band also enhanced their reputation with a well balanced programme which gave ample opportunity for the band’s soloists to show their skills.  Martyn Johnson and Dave Neville earned many new admirers but it was the spectacular playing of euphonium soloist Adam Rutter which stole the show for our particular group.  We look forward with eagerness and enthusiasm to a return of this popular event."

The band and choir both thoroughly enjoyed the concert and celebrated this with an after-party which carried on into the early hours. Indeed some of the 'boys' from the choir enjoyed this party hosted by the band so much last time that they decided to make a real night of it and stay over in Derby!

"What a fabulous evening - we enjoyed it immensely." Paul Sheward, Dalesman MVC

Derwent Brass would like to once again thank the choir, and all who helped in the making the night a complete success.
