Trombone Vacancy Filled

Following the recent resignation of 2nd Trombone - John Baum (due to serious family health problems) the band are delighted to announce that the vacant position has been filled by Howard Else.

This is actually as welcome return, as Howard was a founder member of Derwent Brass in 1992, and held the principle trombone seat through to 2002, when he stepped down from full time playing to concentrate on his career and a young family (& his golf handicap!)  Howard has been a life-long local Derby musician, and as a young man was a member of the Derby Youth Band along with other current Derwent Brass members.

Howard has kept his lip in during his sabbatical, playing in various ensembles and wind bands as well as encouraging his son to take up music. Howard has also 'depped' with Derwent Brass several times over the intervening years, most recently at this year's area contest.

He welcomed the opportunity of getting back into full time banding, describing it as the right time and is looking forward to renewing old friendships and to the challenges of playing with Derwent Brass again.

Meanwhile, we will now be looking for a talented percussionist, as Sam Jowett will be moving away to Cardiff School of Music later this summer.
