Whilst he was studying Accounting at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) he gained the Alumni Instrumental Award which gave him many performing opportunities in the UK and abroad. During his studies he also found time to achieve his DipABRSM Music Performance diploma on Euphonium and became the Principal Euphonium of Cornerstone Brass (Yorkshire) - a position he held for 4 years.

2016 saw Joel’s first foray into Midland banding by joining Thoresby Colliery Band as Solo Baritone. During his spell at Thoresby he was part of a band that competed at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in 2016 and 2017.

After a short sabbatical due to work commitments, Joel went on to join Derwent Brass as Solo Baritone in 2019.

Baritone David Holling

David began his playing career on Euphonium at the age of 6 coming from a banding family of father and two brothers who were all members of the famous 'Band for Britain' Dinnington Colliery Band. His mother is an accomolpished pianist; the piano is another one of David's interests, particuarly in the field of jazz.

At 18 David embarked on a course of study at the University of Huddersfield where he completed his Bachleor of Music with first class honours. It was during this time he concentrated his study on the Baritone and joined the famous Sellers Engineering Band under the wing of world-renowned cornettist Phillip McCann and Euphonium virtuoso, Geoff Whittam. Completion of his degree led to a PGCE and a career in teaching after gaining the Sellers Engineering Scholarship and the Harry Mortimer award for exceptional brass studies.

Through his early teaching years, David was Solo Baritone with Desford Colliery Band, Rhodian Brass and Stocksbridge Asda Band before hanging up his Baritone to concentrate on conducting and his instigation of and prevailing successes with the Peak District Youth Jazz Orchestra, who were the recipients of the Music for Youth Outstanding Award on numerous occasions under his leadership.

As a brass band conductor David has enjoyed many successful periods with the likes of Thurcroft Welfare, Silk Brass, Strata Brass, Dronfield Band, Kibworth and Thoresby Colliery and is also a recognised brass composer and qualified instrument repairs technician. David joined Derwent Brass in 2021, both as a member of the Baritone section, but also as the band's Assistant Music Director.
