Principal Euphonium Matt Spriggs BA (Hons) Arts Hum (Open)

Matt was born and raised in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Starting on cornet aged 8, he played with several local colliery brass bands before joining the Army at 16 as a musician on the Euphonium.

After a successful 27 year Army career, Matt relocated back to Chesterfield in 2015 with his wife Amanda and two daughters Katie and Charlotte. It was at this time he joined Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band on Euphonium. Matt’s time at the band proved very enjoyable with highlights including the Yorkshire Area, Brass in Concert and the World Music Contest podiums, along with winning the French Open Contest.
