28th February saw the band take to the stage at Woodlands School Theatre to perform an 'Open Rehearsal' as part of their preparations for the upcoming Midland Regional Championships to be held at Corby Business Academy. The open rehearsal is designed to provide an insight into the creative world of music-making behind the scenes at Derwent Brass and is well supported.
However this evening was made all the more special through the presentation of an award from the High Sheriff of Derbyshire Theresa Maria Peltier in recognition of great and valuable services to the community. The band is extremely grateful for the continued support of the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, in this office and also those in previous years.
High Sheriffs are appointed by His Majesty the King to represent Him in each county in matters relating to law and order, and are encouraged to undertake duties to help the voluntary and statutory bodies within the County.
The award also recognises the appreciation of the residents and people of the said High Sheriff's County for activity and contribution in enhancing the life of the community.

"It is a great honour for Derwent Brass to recieve this award from the High Sheriff of Derbyshire Theresa Maria Peltier for services to the community. It is always a delight to welcome Theresa to our events of which she has supported so many. The support of dignatories is always massively appreciated by the band both on and off the stage.
We exist to promote and encourage brass music within both our local and wider musical communities and all the associated benefits this can bring; life-affirming experiences, musical education, artistic collaboration, inclusivity, creativity and mental health support to name but a few. This award is reflective of the hard work Derwent Brass undertakes in this regard, in addition to its charitable giving, and further cements our ambitions for continued outreach and positive change."
